Description Julien Olivier 2004-11-26 10:00:48 UTC
http://toufle.net/julien/Videos/

Those videos work well with totem / xine but fail to play with totem / gstreamer.

Can you give some information for each file so I know what I'm looking for? Some
are fairly straightforward (e.g. back_rum.avi crashes straight away...), but
others (e.g. JulienInterview.mov) seem to work fine here (although the movie is
only 2 seconds long - is that correct?). I'll try to fix the obvious ones, but
for some others I might need some more info on what I'm looking for exactly.

Thanks.

Ok, observations:

* All non-working AVI files are IV50 (intel video 5.0) videos. I fixed a crash
(...), they now give a proper error that the video codec is not available. I
don't know of any IV50 implementation right now...
* All non-working MPEG files are in fact MPEG-video-only (.m1v) files. Those are
known to cause issues. I'm working on fixing it...
* The .rm file doesn't work because the video codec is not available (RV30). It
gives that error message, that should be good.
* All other files (the .asf/.mov files) in fact work fine.

I'll be working on point 1 (trying to find an intel-video 5.0 decoder) and 2
(make .m1v videos not crash).
Comment 3 Julien Olivier 2004-12-02 10:13:41 UTC
Here are some details that may help you:

 - All the avi and the asf files are very short videos with sound (between 2 and
10 seconds)
 - The rm one is a 30 seconds video with sound (bad quality)
 - dogcatch[1].avi, kneevault[2].avi, mouthtake[1].avi and rueckhand[1].avi all
fail on totem-xine too, but should be like other avi files: very short videos
with sound.
 - The mpeg ones are video only and are also very short (less than 10 seconds)
 - JulienInterview.mov is a 2 seconds video, with sound (it's cut from a longer
video).
 - tvc_90_totti_sec_large.mov is a commercial. It lasts 90 seconds and has sound.

Here are the errors / problems I get when playing them:

 - The rm one says it lacks a codec.
 - The asf files playback not so badly, but the progress bar doesn't change, and
after a few reiterations of the videos, totem just crashes.
 - For the avi ones that don't play in totem-xine, I get an error about a
missing plugin
 - For the other avi ones, I get a crash
 - The mpeg ones just crash too.
 - For JulienInterview.mov, sometimes I get the video rather correctly but no
sound, sometimes I get the video correctly but very crappy sound, and sometimes
it just crashes while playing. When i get the video to play, the progress bar
never reaches the end, and the "play" icon doesn't appear at the end of the
movie (like if the movie wasn't finished).
 - For tvc_90_totti_sec_large.mov, I can hear the first second of sound, but
totem crashes without even displaying the first video frame.

I hope this helps you.

The .m1v videos no longer crash. so the only remaining issue is the missing IV50
codec (others are already tracked elsewhere in bugzilla). Changing topic and
product accordingly.

http://ronald.bitfreak.net/priv/pitfdll-0.8.0.1.tar.gz contains a DLL loader
that can playback this file format. I'll host it and set up a website and then
close this bug.
Comment 7 Ronald Bultje 2005-04-23 16:03:55 UTC
http://ronald.bitfreak.net/pitfdll.php contains the release. Bug no longer applies.
