GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 158388
URL not mentioned in error msg for failed HTTP loading
Last modified: 2021-07-05 13:20:46 UTC
Please describe the problem: Ok, two closely related error message details: 1. ---------- When xmllint fails to load a HTTP document, it doesn't tell /what/ document that failed. For example: bash-2.05b$ xmllint --noout --schema xhtml_import.xsd xhtml_import.xml I/O warning : failed to load HTTP resource It would be practical if it told what URL that failed. 2.------------ It would be practical if xmllint told where, what line and file, a reference failed to load; both "HTTP resources" and "external entities". For example, instead of: I/O warning : failed to load external entity "../lib/xhtml1-strict.xsd" the message would also tell in what file and line the "../lib/xhtml1-strict.xsd" part was found. Cheers, Frans Steps to reproduce: Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:
The HTTP layer does not have the information to provide it. See xmlCheckHTTPInput() , sorry can't fix without adding public API, not trivial, Daniel
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/libxml2/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
