GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 157503
select url widget after new (empty) tab is created
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
when a new tab is created (Ctrl-T), the url widget should be activated because introducing a new url is the usual thing to do. Cheers
Yup, same here - this has been bothering me for quite a while, too, but I was too lazy to send a feature request. :-) Focusing the URL entry box after opening a new tab (or a new window, for that matter) would definitely be The Right Thing to do.

Is this bug really a duplicate of 72125?
Yes, unfortunately it is :-( What happens is that when a new (blank) tab is opened, a special page "about:blank" is loaded, and when this has finished loading it steals focus from the url bar.
