GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 154599
handle Disk media as source
Last modified: 2009-02-11 00:32:42 UTC
Rhythmbox could handle data disk media as source when there are audio files on it: - When a data disk is inserted, RB could scan the media, and add the media to the sources - when the media is removed it is automatically remove from sources - when a offline media already scanned by RB, is inserted again, rb detect it and make it re-appeared in the source of RB.

I believe this is already implemented in cvs, isn't it, James?
No - I've got a partial implementation that doesn't really work, using some of the "removable media" code I'm doing for audio cd support. It's on my list of things to do soon, though.

This should happen automatically nowadays, with the entries being hidden from the library if they're not accessible. Baptiste, could you confirm it works as expected?
For removable media like disk, you're obliged to put a file .is_audio_player if I remember correctly, else it doesn't work on Rb 0.11.2. I don't know if was the expected behavior from developers; I think if we can avoid this action it would be cool. I need to find a CD full of digital music files and test with it. Cheers

As I mentioned, you can add all the files to the library, and they will be removed/added when you remove/insert the media. There's no way that Rhythmbox will be able to handle random disks as sources, unless there's a way to differentiate them. I'd hate it if my backup disks showed up in Rhythmbox, when I don't have any music on them.
I think this issue can be closed as per comment #7. But feel free to reopen if you don't think so as well!
