GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 153941
fixed aspect in crop tool options
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
It would be a very useful addition to the crop tool options if it would allow a fixed aspect cropping. Before sending images to a digital-print-service, they need to be in 4:3 aspect. If I want to crop them, I now manually have to calculate the right pixel values to keep or set the aspect ratio.
GIMP 2.1 allows to keep the aspect ratio fixed. Not exactly what you are asking for but still useful. I am surprised though that no bug report exists for this Crop tool feature since it has definitely been requested a few times already.
I was surprised as well, because I hear from many people with digital cameras they need something like that. How complex is the crop tool? I'm pretty confident with gtk (I'm author of Bluefish) so perhaps I can create a patch myself...
A patch would of course be appreciated. Please see also bug #152048.
In the meantime, a workaround is to use the Rectangle Select tool, which allows you to set the aspect ratio, and then Image->Crop Image, which crops to the selection.

In an attempt to clean up the crop tool reports, I will mark this one as duplicate of bug #131111. There is also bug #156858 which deals with further improvements. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 131111 ***
