GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 153894
Various string weirdness
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
#: stickynotes/stickynotes.c:336 msgid "Locked note" #: stickynotes/stickynotes.c:341 msgid "Unlocked note" => Unclear whether 'locked' is a verb or a noun, please add translator comment #: stickynotes/stickynotes.glade.h:5 msgid "" "<b>Delete all sticky notes?</b>\n" "\n" "Changes will be saved instantly." => To me, it's completely unclear what the sentence "Changes will be saved instantly" means in this context. Would I care whether changes to a deleted note are saved? Please rephrase.
Does someone want to look at rephrasing these strings?
Created attachment 32033 [details] [review] modified strings Would these strings be acceptable ?
How does this look in the application? Do all the dialogs still make sense?
I think so... The first two strings are tooltips for the little "closed lock/opened lock" icon that appears in the upper-left corner of a note. The icon informs the user on the note state : either locked or unlocked. Hence "this note is locked"/"this note is unlocked". The last two strings are the secondary text for alerts that appear when you are about to delete one note/all notes. I think the original message "Changes will be saved instantly" meant that deletion would be performed instantly, and immediately saved to disk, so you could not reverse this action (hence "this cannot be undone").
If the translators are happy with this, then it can go in HEAD. Reinout, does the proposed changes shed light on what the translation should be for GNOME 2.8?
It's better already. You might ask on gnome-i18n-list what people think about this and if it's worth breaking string freeze for the 2.8 branch.
Comment on attachment 32033 [details] [review] modified strings Vincent, commit this to HEAD please.
Committed.
