Description of the crash:

when opening a second file gedit crashes; in a different situation
selecting "save as" crashes

Steps to reproduce the crash:
1. create a file, save it, and quit gedit (a file with only one line
followed by enter is sufficient)
2. run gedit
3. click open
4. select file (in this case it was in a subdirectory, so select
subdirectory, then file)
5. click open
6. CRASH

Expected Results:
no crash

How often does this happen?
always

Additional Information:
problem originally showed up in a different form. The sequence of
operations was:
open a file, select all, copy, click "new", paste, click "save as",
CRASH
