1. Click on the desktop
2. Press ctrl-l
3. nothing happens

Would be very useful if the open location dialog would show up

I think this is a dupe of: 
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=135399
in that ctrl-l is one of the keybindings being ignored.
Sadly, I am not a sufficiently empowered user to mark this bug as such
(discrimination!)

How can we motivate action on 135399, anyway?
