Description Gavin Brown 2004-08-02 12:15:38 UTC
File Roller could offer support for .cab files (and .exe files that use the CAB
format) using the cabextract program
(http://www.kyz.uklinux.net/cabextract.php), or the libmspack library
(http://www.kyz.uklinux.net/libmspack/). This would make tasks like extracting
fonts or multimedia codecs from self-extracting installer programs possible.

There is also an utility called unshield that supports extracting InstallShield
Cabinet Files. (These files are also called .cab but are different from the
Microsoft cabinet files).
Comment 2 Bastien Nocera 2007-05-23 09:28:28 UTC
This is what cabextract says on such a file:
"
WARNING; found InstallShield header. This is probably an InstallShield file. Use UNSHIELD (http://synce.sf.net) to unpack it.
"

Changing the summary. I filed bug 440651 about the Installshield CAB packages.

The current development version (in trunk) can read cabinet files with 7zip
