Description Kannan Goundan 2004-08-01 06:04:50 UTC
1. Go to GNOME menu: Applications >> Desktop Preferences >> Keyboard Shortcuts

2. When the configuration window comes up, go to the "Sound" section in the tree
view.

3. Click on the line with "Skip to Next track". Press "WinKey+Z" for the shortcut.

4. The entry now shows "<Mod4>z"

5. Close the configuration window.

6. Every time I hit 'Z' (whether I use the WinKey or not), it goes to the next
track (I'm testing this on XMMS with the XMMS-XF86Audio plugin).

7. I can't type the letter 'Z' anymore. It always runs the shortcut. If I
disable the shortcut, I still don't get to use the 'Z' key (even though it no
longer goes to the next track).

---

When I set the shortcut to "WinKey+Z", the entry displays "<Mod4>z". The second
time I do it, it shows "<Mod4>XF86AudioNext". The third time I do it, it shows
"<Mod4>0x34". After that, it keeps alternating between "<Mod4>XF86AudioNext"
and "<Mod4>0x34".

This also happens with Ctrl and Alt, not just with WinKey. This happens with
all the "Sound" actions, but not with some other actions I've tried, like "Home
Folder".

---

My keyboard is a PS/2 keyboard. It doesn't have "multimedia keys."

I'm using XFree86 4.3.0. My config file has:

Section "InputDevice"
  Identifier "Generic Keyboard"
  Driver "keyboard"
  Option "CoreKeyboard"
  Option "XkbRules" "xfree86"
  Option "XkbModel" "pc104"
  Option "XkbLayout" "us"
EndSection
