Description Jens Bech Madsen 2004-07-15 18:31:56 UTC
The features of the fileselector are hard to discover and don't appear to
mentioned anywhere in the documentation.

The fileselector is so complicated that it deserves its own help page in Yelp
describing the various keyboard shortcuts.

If this page was pointed to by a help button in the fileselector, people might
actually learn how to use it.
Comment 1 Andrew Sobala 2005-07-21 18:49:36 UTC
What sort of documentation would be useful - which features are most useful and
undiscoverable?
Comment 2 Brent Smith (smitten) 2006-02-14 04:49:51 UTC
I want this in 2.14. Raising priority.
Comment 3 Joachim Noreiko 2006-02-15 20:41:10 UTC
Any ideas on which part of the User Guide to put this into?
Comment 4 Daniel Espinosa 2006-02-21 04:15:39 UTC
May be it could be in the Basic Skills, called "Open and Save Files from Applications" See the Wiki.
Comment 5 Joachim Noreiko 2006-02-28 21:01:49 UTC
I've put it under "Desktop Overview"->"Applications", since that discusses features common to all apps and this is one.

Committed to CVS and closing as fixed.

Any chance we can get help buttons in the dialogs for 2.14?
The ids for the dialogs to link to:
Open: filechooser-open
Save: filechooser-save
Comment 6 Brent Smith (smitten) 2006-03-01 01:08:47 UTC
Unfortunately the file chooser is part of GTK. I don't see this happening in time for 2.14 but you can definitely bring it up on desktop-devel-list. I might ask shaunm first.
Comment 7 Brent Smith (smitten) 2006-03-01 03:37:01 UTC
On second thought, nothing in GTK+ is going to depend on gnome-user-docs, so I don't see happening anytime soon.
Comment 8 Joachim Noreiko 2006-03-08 11:51:07 UTC
I've filed Bug 333878 for the help button.
