Description Samuel Mouniée 2004-07-11 10:48:14 UTC
type a secure password during the launching of an application ( like OOo ) or
when a IM window is opening suddently.

an example ... I'm logging root with a gnome-terminal and some one contact me
with an IM . when I will press "enter" the person will at least the end of my
password, and sometime the full password.

for me, it's a major security hole. if some one can open a window in your
session, a "naughty boy" can make an attack to get informations with this.

Is it possible to block the auto focus for a windows, when a guy are working ?
or working in a specific window ?

This was requested in bug 118372, although that bug is not specific for password
dialogs.

Bug 118372 comment 84 says:
"Committed the Metacity patch to CVS... Here come all the complaints that new
windows start unfocused and behind the focused window (due to gnome-desktop bug
136278 and nautilus bug 144987)..."

So it will hopefully be in gnome 2.8.

Actually, this specific case was the major reason I worked on that patch and the
reason that I added the security keyword to bug 118372. :-)
