GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 144997
"Snap to Grid" Option Requires File to be Reloaded Before Taking Effect
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
What happens: I am editing a diagram in Dia, and I go to File->Preferences->Grid Lines. I then click on the "Snap to" check box to either turn on or off the "Snap to Grid" feature. This feature does not take effect until I close and reload the file that I am currently working on. What should happen: The state change should occur upon clicking "OK" or "Apply": Additional information: I have seen this occur in Dia 0.91 on MIT's POSIX Athena network and 0.92.2 under Windows XP SP1a. While seemingly minor, this error really makes editing diagrams difficult. I usually do most diagramming with "Snap to Grid" on and then switch back and forth at the end in order to fine-tune the diagram. This makes editing a real pain.
Instead of going into preferences, toggle it in the diagram menu (View->Snap to Grid). This option should go out of the preferences, really.
Ah. Now I understand how the preferences option works. I make this suggestion instead. Rather than removing the item, have the text of the "Snap To" item be changed to "Turn on snap to grid when creating and opening diagrams?" Since that check box currently adjusts the "Snap to Grid" option on the opening and creating of diagrams, there should be no functional code change. I know that I would appreciate being able to open all documents in "Snap to Grid" mode since I do the majority of my diagramming with that option on. The toggle button on the status bar then gives me all the flexibility that I need to change between the two modes.
I think the current situation is clear. But the preference isn't saved: 1. start dia 0.9.4 2. Check box File - Preferences - Grid Lines - snap to 3. press ok, close dia 4. start dia again, box is unchecked.
This appears to be a sideeffect of #154404, which is fixed in CVS. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 154404 ***
