GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 144939
Adding "volume control" Applet to Gnome panel fails
Last modified: 2009-08-15 18:40:50 UTC
Loaded Gnome 2.6.2 build date 06/23/04 Gnome Panel 2.6.3 When trying to add the volume control applet to the Gnome panel, I receive the following Question error: ???? The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_MixerApplet". Details: Unknown COBRA exception id: 'IDL:org/COBRA/INV_OBJREF:1.0' Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration? First of all this error or Question is not related to the action that I am trying to perform. How can I delete an applet from my gnome panel if it doesn't exsist? Here are the steps to recreate this reported bug. 1. Right click in gnome panel, click on "add to panel". 2. Click on "Multimedia", then "Volume Control". 3. You will receive the mentioned above error in a error window.

Update, since this a dup of defect 143192 and I have tried running the steps mentioned in #4, we are still gettig errors. Changing status back to "reopen" till there is some resolution. Also I need to mention that I have tried this on the panel version 2.7.5 and still see the reported problem.
please try to do the following, a) Remove all instances of mixer applet from panel. b) exec from terminal "/usr/libexec/mixer_applet2" (should get some error here ;) ) c) Add mixer applet (Right click -> Add to panel). (This is not required though ;)) And let know the error you get.
NEEDINFO until the we know the error
Update, my environment is gnome 2.7.4, gnopernicus 0.9.7, panel 2.7.5. I have performed the steps mentioned above and for step b, I do not get an error message, just the output: Bonobo Accessibility support Initialized GTK Accessibility Module Initialized Application finalixed called. Also I did a ps -ef and the process is running OK. What is the error message that I'm supposed to get? Reopening bug.
Does it mean the bug doesn't appear any more? If so, all we can do is close the bug.
Ok, can you do "ldd /usr/libexec/mixer_applet2 | grep not" and paste the output here.

Can you build latest version of applets and check if the problem exists?. Till then moving to NEEDINFO.
Update, need to build from latesr CVS head, waiting on Ali to build it.
Update, do not see the reported problem at the CVS head build of 2.7.92, gnopernicus 0.9.10, closing defect.
