GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 144828
Window focus is lost when switching between desktops.
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Description of Problem: Window focus does not appear to be maintained on a per-virtual-desktop basis. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Give a window focus 2. Switch to another virtual-desktop 3. Switch back Actual Results: The orginally focussed window is no longer in focus. Expected Results: The originally focussed window should have focus (imho) How often does this happen? Always Additional Information: Platform: Gnome 2.6 on Fedora Core 2.
I don't know if this is deliberate behaviour (I haven't been able to find any discussion on the subject), but it seems counter intuitive to me, and means I have to either regularly use the mouse to re-set focus, or alt-tab through several windows.
How exactly are you switching to another virtual-desktop? If you are using the pager applet on the panel, then this is two bugs -- bug 124981 and bug 135810 (both of which need to be fixed to correct the behavior you see). If you are using Ctrl-Alt-Arrow, then this is just because of bug 135810 (and, it implies you are using sloppy or mouse focus or have found yet another bug, since click-to-focus should correctly refocus the originally focussed window with Ctrl-Alt-Arrow). Could you clarify so I know whether there's another bug we're not aware of? Or, if not, so that I can know the appropriate location to file this bug to?
I've only noticed it with the pager applet, so sorry for the dupe. I will test with ctrl-alt-arrow when I next get off this Win2K box.
No worries. You reminded me about the bug, and I went and tackled it. So now there's patches to fix it. :) Besides, the wording of the bugs was such that it would have been difficult for you to find the other ones, so you may not have been able to avoid filing a dupe. However, I'll mark it as such now. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 124981 ***
