1. start gnumeric (blank sheet)
2. type text in cell A1, e.g. "Hello"
3. right click in cell -> format cells
4. go to 'font' tab
5. check the strikethrough checkbox, click apply, click ok

It isn't struckthrough.  Save and close, then reopen: it is struckthrough.

This works for me.  What exact version are you using?

(I recall that we had a bug causing things like bold not to be immidiately
visible, but instead only kicking in when a cell was re-rendered.)
