GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 143378
Nautilus should provide a method to hide mounted partitions
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Description of Problem: The new nautilus 2.6 has a very irritating habit of assuming that I want all mounted partitions to appear on my desktop. There doesn't seem to be a way to turn this off. I believe there should be an obvious method of hiding these icons. For example, I have /dev/hda7 mounted at /media. I know that it's there at /media...it's mounted at boot, and it's been mounted at boot for the past 5 years. Ideally it acts transparently, looking just like the rest of the filesystem. However, in the new nautilus there seems to be no way to get rid of the little icon that pops up on my desktop called that says "media". In some cases this is great (like when I plug my mp3 player in and want to switch up the playlist), however in some cases it's most definitely not wanted. If there is a way to keep the icon from showing up, it's not obvious enough as I've been looking for the past 2 days. See this thread for a further explanation: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/nautilus-list/2002-November/msg00054.html I apologize if this is a duplicate, but a quick scan of open bugs didn't reveal what I was looking for.
