GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 142292
Nautilus crashes on startup
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Description of Problem: Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. startx 2. 3. Actual Results: X starts, but not all the configured programs start. Nuatilus just says 'fatal error (aborted)' Nothing in any log file that I can find. Last time I booted the m/c it was fine, this time nautilus crashes in each of two different users. I have tried doing a clean logout from Gnome and restarting; I hvae tried removing ~/.nautilus and restarting Gnome. There is plenty of file system space. Expected Results: How often does this happen? Every time. Additional Information: Sorry. I have absolutely no useful information at rpesent.
Running nautilus in an xterm gives me file nautilus-directory.c line 546 (add_to_hash_table) assertion failed ....
Further fiddling around suggests a possible cause. 'mount' was showing some SMB files systems as duplicated in the mount table. Unmounting all of these (twice, to clear the table) enabled nautilus to start. So, this looks like another inadequate consistency checking problem rather than a real 6-leggedy bad programming bug.
