Just mark a region, drag&drop it somewhere. In the older gimp, you can then 
see, how much pixels in X and Y you've moved it in the statusbar. 
But now, there's only the message "Floating Selection(size MB)". It seems, 
that the displacement is overwritten by this message, because i can see it for 
milliseconds while dragging. 
 
In my eyes, the information HOW MUCH i am moving is very important to align 
things, so i wonder why it's gone?
