have gaim running
Load up totem, set to always on top and fullscreen
get a message in gaim
focus is in the gaim window but you can't see it.

And what do you do if totem crashes?

I do think that it would be a good idea to trigger the anti-focus stealing if a
fullscreen window has focus though.
