I also get this error. I simply rebooted the machine (Red Hat 9.0) since I was not able to access the internet, and started getting the crash. I had not booted the machine in at least 4 weeks. It is running apache, vs-ftp, and samba. (It is my home web/ftp/file server.) Files are served from a separate drive from the operating system, except for web pages which are in /var/www/html . Could gnome-panel be corrupted? The properties still say the last change date was 24-feb-03. I do not know what version of gnome is running, only that it came with the version of Red Hat 9 I have installed (British distribution, I believe, as it came from a British magazine.)
