Description Scott Russell 2004-04-02 14:38:06 UTC
Use Gossip. Disconnect network cable. Wait. Reconnect network cable. Silly
dialog box will have appeared asking if you want to reconnect.

Instead, wouldn;'t the world be a better place if a "not connected" icon
appeared in my task bar, and it just tried to reconenct ever 10 seconds or so?
That way, a) my workflow won't be interrupted until I want it to be (investigate
the "disconnnected" icon) and b) I won't alt-tab the window away, bury it under
emacs and three vterms and forget there is a problem.

Are there any situations in which you *wouldn't* want to reconnect? Could there
be a preference for auto-reconnent? GAIM handles this with a plugin, but that
plugin *also* asks for attention and pops up connection windows that steal focus
and interrupt workflow.

Sorry about the terrible typing. Gossip actually popped up a "do you want to
reconnect" dialog while I was entering the bug and broke my concentration. :)
