From: Christopher Allen <cpcallen@ruah.dyndns.org>
Date: Tue, 16 Mar 2004 20:50:45 +0000

Package: gnumeric
Version: 1.2.6-1
Severity: wishlist

Perhaps this is just Excel-centricity, but it would be really nice if
the selection could be moved (i.e., one could select a different cell)
using the cursor keys, rather than only by clicking on the desired
cell.

(That is, if I'm on A1 and press right-arrow, I would be on B1.)
Comment 1 Jody Goldberg 2004-03-16 22:07:06 UTC
I don't understand. That should work for normal movement and range
selection. Can you be more specific ?
Comment 2 J.H.M. Dassen (Ray) 2004-03-17 07:17:19 UTC
Woops - looks like I was too quick in forwarding this. I misunderstood
the original reporter and thought he'd want a selection to be movable
using the cursor keys.

Subject: #238391 gnumeric: Unable to enter data / text into cell
without double-clicking
From: Christopher Allen <cpcallen@ruah.dyndns.org>
Date: Tue, 16 Mar 2004 20:47:59 +0000

Package: gnumeric
Version: 1.2.6-1
Severity: normal

According to the documentation, I should be able to enter text or data
into a cell by selecting the cell and then typing, but I find this
does not work. I must either double-click the cell or select it then
click in the editing region (at the top of the worksheet).

I cannot reproduce this problem; gnumeric behaves as documented for me.

Please provide more details about your GUI environment. What window
manager are you using? Are you sure the gnumeric window has the input
focus already? (Is the problem repeatable for you after you've entered
data in one cell?)

I am using twm, running on an iBook2. The window definitely has
focus. The problem is entirely repeatable. Here are some other
things that don't work as expected (and that may be related):

- Cursor keys never move the selection (see wishlist bug filed
  separately).

- When entering a formula, if I click on another cell to include a
reference to it in the formula, I have to click on the edit box
before I continue typing or no further keystrokes will be
  registered.

- Typing tab does not complete data/text/formula entry (but enter
does). (Perhaps this is by design?)

I think this bug should be closed.

I discovered that everything worked just as I expected it to on sheets
two and three of the spreadsheet I was working on (but persisted in
not working on sheet one!) Unfortunately, I copied my data to sheet
two and deleted sheet one - and can no longer reproduce the bug, even
starting with a bank workbook.

The cursor-key wishlist bug should be closed too, as I see that works
as expected as well.

Very sorry to have troubled you. There probably is a bug in there
somewhere, but obviously it's not that easy to trigger, and easy
enough to work around...

Seems to have been a fluke.
