Description Darren Adams 2004-02-27 15:54:55 UTC
I think it would be nice that when users' close the download dialog box
whilst a file is being downloaded that they are informed that they can use
the notification icon to check the progress of their download. When I first
closed the download dialog in the 1.1.x series of Epiphany I thought I had
lost the download until I thought to check the notification area.
Comment 1 Christian Persch 2004-10-13 10:53:18 UTC
Mass reassigning of Epiphany bugs to epiphany-maint@b.g.o
Comment 2 Reinout van Schouwen 2005-11-27 23:54:13 UTC
Perhaps the notification icon could blink a few times once the download window
is closed?
Comment 3 Nicolas da Luz Duque 2007-03-04 12:57:17 UTC
Better yet, I think a tooltip should show up.
Comment 4 Reinout van Schouwen 2007-03-04 19:10:00 UTC
Using libnotify or something. Yeah, sounds good!
Comment 5 Diego Escalante Urrelo (not reading bugmail) 2007-03-09 21:31:32 UTC
Every time or just the first time?
Comment 6 Nicolas da Luz Duque 2007-03-10 01:10:18 UTC
Every time a download is finished, I'd say.
Comment 7 Reinout van Schouwen 2007-03-11 13:03:28 UTC
But when a download is finished, the download folder already pops up.
Comment 8 Nicolas da Luz Duque 2007-03-12 19:22:45 UTC
Then I should report a bug. The download folder never poped up for me. My download folder is my desktop, and I never have any indication that my downloads are finished. I must watch for the dissapearance of the download icon in the notification tray.
Comment 9 Reinout van Schouwen 2007-03-12 20:22:43 UTC
Nicolas, the only exception to the popping-up feature is when you download files to the desktop. :) In any case you need Epiphany 2.17/2.18 for this feature to work.
Comment 10 Wouter Bolsterlee (uws) 2008-06-09 14:02:57 UTC
Isn't this fixed yet?
Comment 11 Nicolas da Luz Duque 2008-10-23 10:49:52 UTC
Going over some old bugs, here, and this doesn't seem to be fixed at all, no.

I still think we should bring up a notification bubble (via libnotify?) when a file has finished downloading. Maybe clicking on the bubble could bring up the folder or gnome-open the downloaded file.

This should be pretty trivial to do for an epiphany dev. What do you think?
Comment 12 Wouter Bolsterlee (uws) 2008-10-23 10:51:16 UTC
Eh, this works for me.
Comment 13 Nicolas da Luz Duque 2008-10-23 11:00:32 UTC
Do you receive a notification when the download is complete? I don't.

When the download folder isn't the Desktop, epiphany brings up the folder upon completion, but that's all. No Notification bubble.

I don't think the current behaviour is good because users who download to their Desktop don't receive any notification. This creates a discrepancy and is therefore a usability problem.
Comment 14 Xan Lopez 2008-10-23 11:21:37 UTC
FWIW, if anyone uses the BitTorrent clien Transmission (the GTK+ port), the notification it shows when a torrent is finished downloading is pretty neat.
Comment 15 Reinout van Schouwen 2010-04-07 14:41:54 UTC
I thought this was fixed by now (Epiphany 2.30)?
Comment 16 Diego Escalante Urrelo (not reading bugmail) 2011-03-07 20:43:17 UTC
The just committed bug #618443 (new downloads UI) makes this bug(s) obsolete.
