Setting for example Alt-F2 for "Play" doesn't work. Using a key like Print
Screen does work, though ..

No, it's only a problem for the keys that we bind to keysyms
ourselves, like Play, Pause, Stop. This doesn't affect key bindings
that g-s-d handles itself, like volume, and this sort of thing.
It didn't work before, so it's rather low priority.

We need to parse the keybindings a bit better when setting up new keysyms, and
unset them correctly.
It's a bit of work, but for me it's clearly something that would go in 2.8.

not sure if that's the same bug but the opposite situation seems to doesn't work
neither.
ie: bug #144223 where the submitter try to use the volume keys to switch workspace.

is it a dup ?

Keysym <-> keycode binding is being removed, in favour of better updated layouts.
