GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 133386
'Shut-Up' interruption does not work
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Using Gnome build from cvs HEAD (2nd February 2004). -Start Gnopernicus, enable speech -Open the calculator -Press <Alt-V> to pop up the View menu -Quickly press <Left Arrow> key to move left to the Edit menu Hear that the "View - Basic mode - radiomenuitem - shortcut ctrl B - accelerator alt V B available" is NOT interrupted by the posting of the Edit menu. -Start Gedit -Open the Preferences, choose the 'Save' category -Quickly <Tab> around the various checkboxes and other widgets Again, no interruption is occuring.
Can you tell me please what speech engine are you using? Are you using freeTTS?
Yes, it is FreeTTS.
This seems to be a general problem with using TTS engines with markers support. Bug 132182 and bug 132777 describe same issue.

Patrick, can you check if the problem is still present with this patch.
Created attachment 24409 [details] [review] a new proposed patch
Remus - the problem appears to be resolved when the patch is applied.
The only thing I noticed was when you initially switch to a window, gnopernicus insists on reading out the whole string and the first focused object, regardless of switching focus immediately. Also, in the alt-tab/ctrl-alt-tab popups, the interruption does not work properly - the output queues up.
Patch applied to CVS.
The remained issues are posted in bug 134845.
