gnome-vfs doesn't search the GNOME install prefix for the XDG MIME
database.  If one installs GNOME into an other prefix besides /usr or
/usr/local then it becomes necessary to set environmental variables.

It would be good to also search the GNOME installation prefix, or rather
datadir.

The spec specifies that it should use XDG_DATA_DIRS to search for the
path.  This lets you use applications installed into multiple prefixes.
