Description Calum Benson 2004-01-16 12:16:05 UTC
The right-hand lists in the Core and Advanced tabs really ought to have a
label... would suggest something like "Available layouts:" and "Available
options:" respectively, with appropriate mnemonics.
Comment 1 Sergey V. Udaltsov 2004-01-20 09:06:47 UTC
Actually, currently the labels belong to BOTH lists. If I put the
label on "Avaliable ..." trees separately, I have to change the
current one to "Selected ..." and the dialog looks a bit overloaded
IHMO. Do you really think it is necessary? Could you please think of
it one more time?
Comment 2 Calum Benson 2004-01-21 18:35:54 UTC
Well, probably the reason for my suggestion was primarily
accessibility... if a screenreader user tabs to a list, the list needs
to have some sort of description so that the user can tell what it's
for. Normally that description is its label. Also, if it has a label
it can have a mnemonic, so keyboard navigation is somewhat improved.

I take your point that the labels currently apply to both lists, but
in this case that should really be the function of the tab label.
*Within* each tab, each list does perform a different function (one
shows you what you have selected from the other), and it's that
difference I was trying to highlight in my suggested additional labelling.

(Fixed typo in summary)
Comment 4 Sergey V. Udaltsov 2004-01-21 20:55:51 UTC
OK, I will fix it - but if someone other claims the UI is overloaded -
:-F...)
Comment 5 Calum Benson 2004-01-23 15:09:54 UTC
Heh... well, if they do, the other alternative is to make sure the
accessible description is set on the lists, even if they don't have a
label... but that doesn't help with keynav of course :)

Updating status whiteboard to reflect a11y team's assessment of priority.
