Actually gconf keys for color management like brightness and contrast are
handled in bacon-video-widget itself..

It would be better IMHO to have the gconf key management in totem directly
as the colorbalance settings are quite specific to the application.

I would disagree actually, I consider those settings to be "system" settings,
and I hope to move those to the control-center in the future.
