GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 128506
proposal for "convert to CMYK" feature
Last modified: 2003-12-05 11:56:34 UTC
I've heard that GIMP 2.0 will include conversion between RGB and CMYK colour schemes. It'd be great to have some advaned but useful for dtp options: Black Ink Limit and Total Ink Limit.
You heard wrong but I will assign your bug-report to the feature request that deals with this issue. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 123598 ***
Is this a cms thing, or should we just limit the values of C, M, Y, and K?
I mean CMYK values or, to be more exact, controlling the density of colours rather by K value than CMY together.
gimp_rgb_to_cmyk() allows to specify the amount of black to be pulled out. Is that what you are asking for? http://developer.gimp.org/api/1.3/libgimpcolor/libgimpcolor-GimpColorSpace.html#gimp-rgb-to-cmyk
Probably yes. But on the other hand we must remember about proper conversion of colours from RGB to CMYK and I'm not sure it can be done without color profiles.
It surely can't be done w/o profiles but these functions are just a first step encouraging people to improve the CMYK functionality.
Of course, things go to right direction. GIMP is so powerful tool and I think DTP features are next unavoidable step for it.
