GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 128322
Notification Area uses 100% CPU under fedora Notification Area uses 100% CPU under fedora core 1 default kernel.
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Description of Problem: When a user logs on, the Notification Area uses 100% CPU under fedora core 1 default kernel (Yarrow, i686, single processor). This does not happen when the notification area is removed, pointing the problem to the applet. It also happens even if no notification-aware apps are being loaded. It also does not happen in kernel 2.6.test11. (from arjan's RPM) This suggest it is a red-hat kernel problem only. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Configure GNOME to use the notification Area 2. Save the configuration 3. Log out 4. Log back in. 5. Start top. 6. Do nothing else. Actual Results: top will show the notification area struggling to get 100% cpu usage for as long as 5 min. Time changes, and eventually CPU usage goes back to zero. Expected Results: The notification area does not uses 100% CPU for long periods How often does this happen? Every time a user log-s in. Additional Information: kernel 2.6.test11 gotten from (yum.conf) [2.6testkernels] name=Test Linux 2.6-test prerelease kernels for RHL9/rawhide baseurl=http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.5/
