Problem fixed by full cleaning of /var/tmp and /tmp (I can't guess what file/directory confuse gnumeric start) Anyway I think crash is not better way do display diagnostic about invalid temporary file permissions.
the user has accesibility support enabled while root has not... This is a well known (non-gnumeric) bug in the accessibility system. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 121675 ***
