Description Rex du Pont 2003-11-13 20:55:08 UTC
I am using RedHat 8.0 and inadvertantly shifted the panel to the vertical
mode. It promptly refused to start up the next time, giving me a squence
of the following error. "Application "gnome panel" (process xxxx) has
crashed due to fatal error. (aborted) If I clear this stop it repeats
with process xxxx up three digits. Sometimes it will let me in after a
while, mostly it won't. I can get in as root where the panel is not vertical.

This has just happened on a second computer with the same system in our
office, on which the panel was inadvertently switched to vertical.

Neither of these machines is connected to the net, as a matter of security.

The last entry in the stack trace was
"Loaded symbols for /usr/bin/system-tray-applet/libsystem-tray-applet.so
Ox420ae169 in wait4 () from lib/i686/libc.so.6
(gdb)"

The previous one was:
"Loaded symbols for /usr/bin/system-tray-applet/libsystem-tray-applet.so...
done."

HELP!

Hi Rex, RH 8.0 ships with a somewhat ancient Gnome - if you update to
XD2 (eg.) you will prolly have more joy. Also, this is a panel bug I
guess. Finally - the full stack trace is necessary to do anything
about it, I'd upgrade before going any further though.

Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been
reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report
any further bugs you find. This bug has been fixed and you should try
upgrading the gnome-panel rpm.
