GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 126674
Reassign "move window to workspace" to keys in keyboard move mode
Last modified: 2020-11-07 12:37:01 UTC
I believe there's a bug report about the window menu becoming unwieldly when the number of workspaces is large. This is a suggestion for a replacement. Alt+F7 (also Alt+Space M) enters the keyboard move mode. This seems a natural place to allow the window to be moved to another workspace via the keyboard. Because no other action can take place while in this mode, multiple keys may be assigned to transport the window. The function keys (or the number keys) can be used to move to workspaces 1-12 (or 1-9). PageUp and PageDown can move to the previous and the next workspace, respectively. Home and End to the first and last, respectively. And so forth. A window like the Alt+Tab window could indicate what's allowed how.
Seems like an interesting idea.
bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old feature requests in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years. If you still use metacity and if you are still requesting this feature in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/metacity/-/issues/ Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be implemented.
