GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 124085
Panel doesn't handle RandR changes well
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Description of Problem: If you change your resolution using xrandr or the new display capplet, maximised windows will maximise "underneath" a panel. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Maximise a window. 2. Change your resolution (best to change to a smaller resolution) using xrandr (either with the command-line util or with the capplet). 3. Your maximised window will now extend beyond any non-autohide panels. (In particular, if you do this with a default GNOME desktop, the window will extend beyond the panel at the bottom of the screen.) Actual Results: Your maximised window will now extend beyond any non-autohide panels. (In particular, if you do this with a default GNOME desktop, the window will extend beyond the panel at the bottom of the screen.) Expected Results: The window should be maximised as it was before changing resolution; i.e. the bottom portion of it should not be covered by the panel. How often does this happen? Every time. Additional Information: Not 100% sure if this is a panel bug or a metacity bug, but it would seem that metacity is doing its job (it seems to maximise to mostly the correct the size, except for the panel). Also, if you resize the panel in question using its properties dialog, the problem is fixed instantly. So, something that the panel does when it gets resized fixes the problem.
Whoops.. turns out it was a metacity bug and there's already a patch. Apologies. See bug #117230. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 117230 ***
