GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 123462
Ability to change binding for 'locate pointer'
Last modified: 2015-11-03 18:08:50 UTC
Currently in the 'Mouse Preferences' dialog, there is an option to locate the mouse pointer on-screen. The checkbox says "Highlight the pointer when you press Ctrl". It would be useful to allow the user to set the keybinding to something other that 'Ctrl'.

Apologies for spam-- ensuring Sun a11y team are cc'ed on all current a11y bugs. Filter on "SUN A11Y SPAM" to ignore.
"Locate pointer" also breaks the use of Control-Escape to launch the gnome foot menu (!). The 'locate pointer' feature actually seems to be quite toxic to accessibility :-( because of the way that it is implemented. The grab on a modifier key may break screen readers and, potentially, onscreen keyboards as well.
dup of bug 125618?
Not really, no (at least not the original enhancement request, comment 3 is).
Under Wayland, the feature as it is implemented in gnome-settings-daemon will not work at all. To be implemented under Wayland, it will need to be implemented in gnome-shell: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=690055 Any bugs or new features for "Locate pointer" should be fixed in a new implementation in gnome-shell.
