GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 123267
Metacity seems to forget settings
Last modified: 2005-08-26 21:45:54 UTC
Occasionally metacity forgets that I've set sloppy focus and reverts to click to focus. Changing the setting in GConf-editor doesn't fix things, the only solution is to killall metacity and let gnome-session restart it...then we're back in sloppy focus mode. (I'm using CVS HEAD)
I use sloppy focus all the time and I've never seen that happen. Anything weird about your setup? Have you run a killall gconfd-2 or restarted your computer since you upgraded your gnome?
Its happened on numerous occasions over the last month or so. So yeah, everything that needs to be restarted has been restarted. Nothing weird about the setup. CVS HEAD of gnome, linux 2.6-test4 kernel... gtk, pango and glib HEAD...but I don't know if that'd cause any issues.
Does it forget on session login, or sometime during the session? There's another bug about forgetting stuff only at login time. For both of these all I can think of is some sort of "CORBA stops working" scenario.
During the session
There's been a couple other bug reports about this--but I don't recall the numbers.
Bug 143152 is at least one of the other bugs I was thinking of. I'm pretty sure these two are duplicates, but not completely sure due to the slight differences in description.

This may be the same as bug 154005. Can anyone duplicate this with GConf >= 2.8.2 (if using the 2.8.x stable series) or GConf >= 2.9.3? (Note that neither of those versions exist yet, so you'll have to be using CVS HEAD if you want to test it out right now.)
Well, as noted in bug 143152, I saw this bug too but I don't see it any more. So I'm marked as a dupe of 154005. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 154005 ***
