GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 121294
the measure tool only knows about pixels as a unit
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Somebody requested seeing distances in milimeters instead of pixels in the measure tool's status bar. Perhaps this could be a global preference 'default unit' instead of measture tool option. This unit would then be default for all dialogs and tool options.
Perhaps it's a little difficult to find, but if you turn off "Dot for dot" in the <Image>->View menu, the measure tool then works in the default image unit (which is Inches by default, but can be set to millimeters in the New Image preferences window). This setting can also be modified on the fly in <Image>->Image->Scale Image, in the "Print and new unit settings" frame. You can even have a view with pixels and a view with millimeters, since "dot for dot" is a per-view setting. The units, however, are per-image, so it is not possible to see the same image with inches and millimeters, for example. Dave.
