Description Gregory Merchan 2003-08-29 08:00:22 UTC
The menu section requires View->Statusbar for every app with a status bar,
then the controls section warns that the status bar may be turned off.

(Noted while filing: concatenation is inconsistent - sometimes "status bar",
 other times "statusbar".)

It seems to me very odd to require View->Statusbar. Even in browsers - where
I first saw the item - it seem unnecessary; the statusbar should just be
shown when not in fullscreen mode. View->Statusbar seems like clutter.

Is there a reason to require the menu item?
Comment 1 Calum Benson 2003-11-26 18:50:10 UTC
I could be persuaded to remove the requirement, although arguably it
should help make developers think about the type of information
they're putting in the statusbar, if they know the user can turn it off.

In the meantime, I've made sure the draft HIG says "statusbar"
everywhere, as per the GDSG.

I agree, it seems like a useless menu item.
Comment 3 Allan Day 2014-09-26 13:11:36 UTC
The item was removed with the latest version.
