GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 119911
Can't recognize some mp3 files
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Package: rhythmbox Severity: normal Version: 0.4.8 Synopsis: Can't recognize some mp3 files Bugzilla-Product: rhythmbox Bugzilla-Component: General Description: Description of Problem: My netRhythmbox 0.4.8 can't recognize certain audio files; in fact, it doesn't even add them to the playlist when I try to introduce them. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Download e.g. the freely available mp3 at http://medlem.spray.se/jeesuspelastaa/Apostolit%20-%20Jeesus%20tuli.mp3 2. Try to add it to the playlist via Organize / Add to Library Actual Results: Nothing happens, can't find them in the list. Expected Results: The files should now be found from the list and be playable. How often does this happen? All the time for the particular files in question. Additional Information: Also, some mp3 files do show up on the list, but with duration 0:0. The player won't then play them, but displays a "Could not find media type" dialog instead (and stops going through the playlist, which is bothersome and perhaps a bug on its own). Don't know why. These play well on mpg321. And, sorry to say, no, I don't have any distributable examples. -- Mikko Rauhala - mjr@iki.fi - <URL:http://www.iki.fi/mjr/> Transhumanist - WTA member - <URL:http://www.transhumanism.org/> Singularitarian - SIAI supporter - <URL:http://www.singinst.org/> ------- Bug moved to this database by unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org 2003-08-14 17:35 ------- The original reporter (mjr@iki.fi) of this bug does not have an account here. I get the "Could not find media type" thing too. Try the mp3 available here: http://www.snorp.net/files/rhythmbox-bug.mp3
rhythmbox-bug.mp3 gives the media type message again, though for this particular file the length (time) _is_ displayed. (Upgraded to 0.4.99.5, by the way. The original problems still persist also.)
