There's probably a good reason for it, but you're not on irc, so I'll ask
here. Why is there no pango_xft_render_layout or pango_xft_render_layout_line?

Because by the time I needed them, I had gdk_draw_pango_layout,
etc, and I didn't need them.

I don't think it would hurt to add such functions, but I don't want yet 
another copy of the render-layout /  render-layout-line code, so 
see bug 107668, which discusses a generic mechanism for driving
layout rendering with a callback function.

Ok. Just want to note that the absence of these functions is one of
the barriers to using pango for non-gtk+ X apps. (Not the biggest
barrier-- that would be lack of docs/tutorial, I think.)
