Description Jordi Mallach 2003-07-06 00:02:08 UTC
Currently, if your, say, ICQ transport goes down, it just dissapears from
you r gossip window. In Gabber, they stayed visible in "disconnected"
state, so you could left click and "Log in" again. Other gabber actions
were "Log out" (to voluntarily switch the protocol off), "Remove transport"
entirely and I'm too sleepy to think of more stuff in that menu. Probably
that's all the interesting stuff.
Comment 1 Mikael Hallendal 2003-07-06 21:40:43 UTC
The support for transports are currently non-existent, it just works
somewhat because of the nature of the Jabber protocol.

As for how we want it in Gossip we don't want to show the terrible
nature of transports but rather try to make it look like native
support (ala GAIM) _but_ have it using transports. Ie, we consider the
fact that they are transports an implementation issue, not a user
visible thing.

So, having them in the roster at all doesn't really make sense since
it isn't contacts.

As I understand new there are no ability to add a new trasport and
people can't talk with other IM system when using gossip :(

I think we should add this ability ASAP, because there are a lots of
people using different IM systems.
Comment 3 Martyn Russell 2004-11-11 18:18:22 UTC
There is currently a gossip-transports branch which has support for using other
protocols via the Jabber interface. We are working towards bringing this to the
masses and merging the work to the HEAD branch.

As far as having transport specific functions (like Log On and Log Off) are
concerned, my branch does make a start by having a slightly different context
menu on the roster, but I believe the roster is not the right place for
transports so I am not sure how that will all work out.
Comment 4 Mikael Hallendal 2004-11-16 08:31:22 UTC
Yeah, I left the bug open not to add the functionality to the contact list but
rather to add the functionality somewhere.
Comment 5 Martyn Russell 2006-01-18 12:20:13 UTC
Removing target milestone, since we don't know when or if this feature will be re-added yet.
Comment 6 Akhil Laddha 2011-01-31 11:59:33 UTC
Gossip development has been stalled and it has been unmaintained for a few years now. You may use 'empathy' for similar functionality.

Maintainers don't have future development plan so i am closing bugs as WONTFIX. Please feel free to reopen the bugs in future if anyone takes the responsibility for active development.
