Description joshg 2003-06-30 20:26:24 UTC
Package: gnome-vfs-extras
Severity: normal
Version: GNOME2.2.2 0.2.0-5.ximian.6.4
os_details: Ximian, Inc.
Synopsis: [RFE] SMB portions of gnome-vfs-extras should retain authentication data across apps
Bugzilla-Product: gnome-vfs-extras
Bugzilla-Component: smb
Description:
Hello -

I love the SMB browsing portions of gnome-vfs... however, it would be
very nice for convenience and polish if gnome-vfs' SMB portions
maintained a current cache of authentication/authorization data given...
for example, if I use Nautilus to browse another computer over SMB, as
soon as I try to access that computer, I have to enter my username and
password... once authenticated once, Nautilus remembers that data for
the rest of the session... but it seems silly that when I try to open a
file from Nautilus into OO.o (Ximian's version) that I would have to
type in that authentication information again (actually, twice... a bug
I've filed with Ximian)... or that I can't open a text file in gEdit
over SMB because gEdit isn't able to access that authentication data to
open the file and possesses no means of asking me for it (I've also
filed a bug against gEdit for this)...

Thanks!

-jag

Setting severity to enhancement, but marking as new. Because it
sounds like a "cosmetic bugs of particularly high visibility", I'm
going to mark priority as high; feel free to let me know if that's not
right. Adding the GNOMEVER2.2 and bugsquad keywords too.
