Did get to the database by starting with gnucash --nofile and then going to
 Edit -> Preferences and unchecking Run on GnuCash Start and Notify on new,
autocreated Scheduled Transactions (MUCHO thanks to warlord in #gnucash for
this info) and then closing and restarting.
