Description Alastair Tse 2003-06-07 16:41:56 UTC
trying to kill a root owned process as a user after it prompts for the root
password causes the UI to freeze. this is using gnome-system-monitor 2.0.5.

to reproduce:

1. select a root process
2. click on the "end process" button
3. password dialog pops up prompting for root password
4. enter root password
5. the UI freezes, and on the console there is a "Password:" prompt, which
is not interactive. (eg, if you type something, it is not redirected to
whatever is prompting for the password.)

seems like gnome-system-monitor starts blocking awaiting output from the
command to kill the process, whereas the command to kill the process is
waiting for a password to be sent.

attached is a screenshot of what happens. please let me know if you need
any further information.

in addition to this, we also have a bug report on gentoo bugzilla with
something similar.
