GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 112111
Wish : Showing file size when saving image
Last modified: 2005-03-22 18:19:13 UTC
Hi, It could be useful to have an indication on the size of the image file when "saving as..." an image, depending on what extension / file type (and options, such as compression) is choosen. The aim is to quickly see if it would be better to save the image in jpeg, png, or other formats. This feature exists in photoshop, where you can see the size of the file that would be saved, and its preview, while changing file type and options. Patrice.
This would indeed be nice to have. See bug #98017.
Changes at the request of Dave Neary on the developer mailing list. I am changing many of the bugzilla reports that have not specified a target milestone to Future milestone. Hope that is acceptable.
Isn't this possible now if you choose the "Preview" option in the "Save As" dialog? Also, given different image formats have different save options (GIF being different than PNG, etc), I wonder what the most effective way of implementing this would be. :)
How's the preview in the save dialog related? It shows you previews of files that are on your disk already, not a preview of the file you are saving.
By the way, why is this bug report marked as blocking bug #98017 ("save for web") instead of being simply a duplicate of it? The main feature of "save for web" is to display a preview of the image and its estimated file size. It can provide more (e.g., 2-way or 4-way comparison with different quality settings or file formats), but the main part of bug #98017 is exactly the same as what is requested here. So I would suggest removing the dependencies and marking this as a duplicate.
