Description of Problem:
The panel application fatally crashes and keeps on
trying to restart then crashes again. Cannot get
the panel back to horizontal allong the bottom.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. move panel to verticle left position
2. logoff and logon
3. 

Actual Results:
Application "gnome-panel" (process 1208) has crashed
due to a fatal error.
(Aborted)

Expected Results:
Normal operation of panel

How often does this happen? 
Has happened under root, and under another user.
It appears to be a continuous problem within each
session.
