GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 107286
Many "Install theme..." buttons are confusing
Last modified: 2005-02-01 22:37:46 UTC
Hi, The theme manager has improved very well since 2.0. However, a few users of my complained about some confusion when installing themes. These users downloaded themes from art.gnome.org and tried to install them. The first window has a "Install theme..." button, but under details controls, window border and icons has one too. They didn't know which button they should use. I think there are two possible solutions: One: have a "smart" "Install theme..." button. It must automatically detect what kind of theme the user wants to install so it can install it in the proper directory (.themes or .icons). Two: Give these buttons clearer names. So call it "Install icons", "Install window borders" and "Install controls". The problem with this, is that the concept of "Window borders" and "controls" are not very clear to the common user. Well I hope you can do something with this. Regards, Viet Yen
Thanks for the bug report. The theme-manager needs some usability work still.
Won't be fixed for 2.4. Theme capplet is high on the list for reworking for 2.6.
In the bug #102216 there are a proposed patch that fix this issue.
Just committted a patch in bug #102216 that fix this bug. Removes the install buttons in details controls.
