Description bugs 2003-02-27 00:04:26 UTC
It would be nice to at least have the option of having a bookmarks menu
item where you could access bookmarks in the old fasion drop down menu
method. Is there any chance that this will happen? I see no problem with
such a menu item in terms of bloat or what not and it would make it much
easier for folks with disabilities and/or laziness. The option could be a
simple yes/no configuration item.
Comment 1 Marco Pesenti Gritti 2003-02-27 01:34:16 UTC
I dont think an option make sense here.
I'm personally not keen of the traditional way of navigating bookmarks
simply because submenus are terrible to use.
People are very used to it, so I think your request is legitimate.
Let's find a solution though, not add an option to work the problem
around :)
Comment 2 bugs 2003-02-28 20:15:31 UTC
I have been thinking about other options and am having trouble
thinking of alternatives. I think whatever the fix is that it should
probably be enabled/disabled via the preferences menu. This ensures
that people who do not want to be bothered with it will not be
bothered... Maybe I am thinking too much in terms of classical web
browser though.
Comment 3 Marco Pesenti Gritti 2003-03-09 01:22:48 UTC
A possible solution to the bookmarks menu problem could just be to
allow to drag the All item in the bookmarks editor to the toolbars.
We already plan to have keywords draggable, adding this could be a
good way to not piss off users used to the bookmarks menu, without
adding clutter.
Comment 4 bugs 2003-03-09 01:31:47 UTC
I would be interested in seeing that approach. I am still not totally
conviced that a configuration item enabling/disabling the Bookmarks
pulldown menu (such that the pulldown menu does not appear at all if
the user does not want it) is a bad idea. It would add no clutter
unless it was enabled by a user who wanted it. I think we may be
overcomplicating this.

I'm marking this a dupe of 107478:
1. most of the ephy team is against a bookmarks menu.
2. the bme is toplevel window that can always be kept open if the user
wants.
3. marco basically seems against it.

I do not see this as a dup or as resolved. It is still an issue.
Ignoring is not the solution. Reading through the bug report, it does
not seem to be resolved...

reduping as per conversation with marco and other ephy-devs. We don't
want a bookmark menu, but dragging "all" to the toolbar will be
supported in the future.
