Description Elwin Beall 2003-02-18 21:38:12 UTC
Description of Problem:
After switching desktop from Gnome to WM, and back
to Gnome, Log Out icon on Gnome panel doesn't
doesn't issue the logout sequence for a very long
time (about 5-10 minutes). Action is done with
root account.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. After logging in as root, Switch desktop from
Gnome to Window Maker using desktop switching tool.
2. After exiting WM, switch desktop from Window
Maker to Gnome from the graphical login screen by
selecting a Gnome session and logging in as root.
3. Try logging out from the Gnome panel by
selecting the Log Out icon. If the results are
the same as mine, the logout popup will not show
up for about 5-10 minutes.

Actual Results:
System doesn't show logout popup window for 5-10
minutes.

Expected Results:
Should show logout popup immediately.

How often does this happen?
Consistantly

Additional Information:
This is RedHat 8.0 using Gnome. WM is installed,
but KDE isn't. System worked fine until I used
the desktop switching tool. The tool works fine,
but now I don't get a logout popup for an extended
period of time. This may not be an actual bug,
but I thought I should see if this problem can be
reproduced.

I think this is a gnome-session bug and that this is a duplicate of
bug 95834 (thanks to Thomas Benson for catching this and posting a
note to 95834). Thomas says that he gets this behavior with the CVS
HEAD version of gnome-session, though he's not using gdm at all.
Since I'm unsure still, though, I'll let someone else mark it as a
duplicate.

Marking as dupe of 95834 since it really is. Seems to be that problem
and seems to have nothing to do with gdm
